What’s a nerd? They’re people with an intense interest in science and technology—particularly math, computers, and information systems. They are logical, inquisitive, clear-thinkers who possess an above average IQ—significantly above average. In the internet and information age nerds have assumed another role: visionary. Hidden Tax of the Day: the Arrow Shaft Tax
The arrow shaft tax is a tax on any arrow shaft that is resold, or incorporated into an arrow for resale. The shaft must be at least 18 inches long or suitable for use with a taxable bow (yes, there is also a separate bow tax). Continue reading

Just say #So? to the mainstream media smears
The media is up to its old tricks—holding conservatives to a standard they never apply to liberals. They declare conservatives are guilty until proven evil, while liberals are innocent until proven to be the victim of a right wing attack.
Their latest target is Herman Cain. Politico runs a hit piece without any of the pertinent facts, and demands: “Mr. Cain, what do you have to say for yourself?”

Hidden Tax of the Day: the Segment Tax
The segment tax is an airline passenger tax. Everytime a passenger takes off or lands, this tax must be paid.
If you travel non-stop from NY to LA, you pay the tax twice. If you transfer planes along the way in Chicago and Pheonix, you pay the tax six times, because you took off three times, and you landed three times. There is no limit to how many times the segment tax is applied to a ticket.
You, the passenger, never see the segment tax, because it is hidden in the price of your airline ticket. Continue reading

Herman Cain: Demolition Man
There was something about the recent Herman Cain “smoking” ad that seemed familiar to me, but I just couldn’t put my finger on it. Then it hit me, it reminds me of the Edgar Friendly speech from the movie Demolition Man.
For those not familiar with the film, it is a Sylvester Stallone move set in the not too distant future where the nanny-state has come to full fruition. Use of crude language is fined, food is restricted to “healthy choices,” music is limited meaningless ditty’s, and even kissing is prohibited as a safety hazard because it transfers bodily fluids. Citizens lead safe, happy, government-directed, meaningless lives.

How to Guarantee a Democrat Majority in Congress Forever
Vote for any of the current GOP candidates that are offering tax cuts as part of their economic plan.
47% of voters pay no income taxes. In 1984 it was only 18%. Over the years that number steadily increased under both Democrats and Republicans. We’ve reached the point where creating more non-taxpaying voters will tip us over the edge.

Today’s 22% Hidden Sales Tax vs. Cain’s 9% Visible Sales Tax
What is a sales tax? It is a tax that is paid by a customer when they purchase a retail item. Today, because of the way our tax system is configured, 22% of the retail price of any item purchased is due to hidden taxes embedded into the price.
Hmmm, a 22% tax that is paid by the retail customer at the time of purchase. You know, that sounds a lot like a sales tax to me–a hidden sales tax.

Why We Need Herman Cain’s 9-9-9 Plan
Since 1984, there has been a steady rise in the number of people that pay no income taxes at all—from 18% to 47%. Over that time we’ve had Democratic and Republican presidents; the Democrats have controlled congress, and the Republicans have controlled congress; the trend continues no matter who is in power.

Herman Cain 9-9-9 Calculator
If you want to know how the 999 plan would affect the price you pay for individual items (like milk or a car) click here: 9-9-9 Plan Retail Price Calculator.
- If you get a paycheck from an employer, then your employer pays half of your payroll taxes behind the scenes. It’s part of your pay that’s hidden from you in the current system. This tax goes away under the 9-9-9 plan, so the money will start showing up in your paycheck (yes, your paycheck amount will go up under the 9-9-9 plan by 7.65%). If you check yes, it will be added to the adjusted base income number (which is why it is more than the number you base income box).
- Amount not spent is the amount you don’t spend out of your income, so there is no sales tax on it. If you put $1,000 into a savings account each year, then put 1000 in this field.
- The maximum effective tax rate under Herman Cain’s 9-9-9 plan is 16.5%. This only occurs if you don’t put any money into savings and spend every dime you earn.
- When doing your calculations for your current income, don’t forget that the payroll tax (which is 15.3%) will be eliminated under the 9-9-9 plan. Everyone, every one that works pays the 15.3% payroll tax. Consequently, the maximum tax increase anyone at the low end of the income scale might see under the 9-9-9 plan is a mere 1.2%.
- This plan is still a proposal; it is not written in stone. If you think you have a suggestion or can improve upon it, then you should suggest it.
PS
I have tried my best to make this accurate, but I haven’t tested this script fully. If anyone finds any problems please notify via twitter @Nerds4Cain.
Thanks to darkjart for pointing out I had an error in my original calculation. I was applying the sales tax to 100% of the money I had to spend. But of course, if you are paying the sales tax out of the same pool of money, you can’t spend all of your money and pay the sales tax with it. The formula has been corrected. This also means the maximum effective tax rate under 999 is 16.5%, not the 17.19% as I had earlier.

Herman Cain vs. Barack Obama
Herman Cain was raised in the segregated south—Atlanta, Georgia.
Barack Obama was raised in Hawaii and Indonesia.
Herman Cain grew up poor. His father worked three jobs to make ends meet (chauffeur, barber, and janitor) and his mother was a maid. His family was so poor growing up that he didn’t even have his own bed or room. He slept on a cot in the kitchen.
Barack Obama grew up in a privileged environment. His grandmother (who raised him in Hawaii) was vice-president of the Bank of Hawaii. In Indonesia, as the adopted son of a high level oil company executive, his family enjoyed servants—cooks, maids, chauffeurs, and gardeners—to take care of their needs.
There is a note of irony in the fact that growing up Cain had a chauffeur as a father and Obama had a chauffeur as a servant.
